Sundays on Sparked: Pause and Reset
Weekdays are for action. Sundays are for slowing down.
May I be happy.
This practice is about being kind—to others and especially to yourself.
It can be done anytime, anywhere.
I use it when I feel overwhelmed or stuck.
It helps me be nicer to myself, just like the "There, There Sweetheart." practice.
Inspired by the Buddhist teachings of loving-kindness, this practice is a reset for your mind and your heart.
Here goes:
Silently say or whisper to yourself:
May I feel safe.
May I have peace.
May I be happy.
May I be at ease.
If it feels awkward, start by offering these words to someone else—a loved one, your pet, or even a stranger in the store. Simply replace the ‘I’ with ‘you’.
May you feel safe.
May you have peace.
May you be happy.
May you be at ease.
The more you practice, the easier it gets.
Trust me, it works.
This practice has changed me. It’s softened me in a good way and helped me see goodness in myself and others.
I hope it does the same for you.
P.S. I want to acknowledge meditation teacher Sharon Salzberg for bringing these powerful teachings to the Western world.
