Hi Cara. I think of sweetened as akin to getting a "complement sandwich," which is what they used to do in the corporate world, where they give you a compliment, give criticism, and then follow it with another compliment, in order to soften the blow of the criticism. I've been on the receiving end of this in the workplace, and it feels smarmy, manipulative and disingenuous. Direct, unsweetened feedback or criticism can be hard to take at times, but I'd rather have that than sweetened. I also feel like unsweetened feedback builds trust. Finally, I'm a direct person (being from New York), so I appreciate directness.
Unsweetened. Sweetened feels manipulative.
I’d love to hear more of you’re willing Carolyn.

Years ago I would have asked for sweetened. Now only unsweetened will do.
