Stop Drowning It Out
Spark #104 - Silence has something to say. You’ve just been too busy to hear it.
This is how silence speaks.
When you finally slow down, the truth comes through. The problem is—you rarely do.
You don’t trust yourself.
You think you do.
But when it gets quiet—really quiet—you scramble to fill the space.
You reach for noise. For input. For someone else’s voice to tell you what you already know.
I know that move.
I’ve done it a thousand times.
Silence makes you uncomfortable because it’s honest. It doesn’t flatter or sugarcoat. It tells you the truth you don’t want to face.
It shows you:
Where you’re shrinking
When you’re hiding
How often you say “yes” just to keep the peace
But instead of listening, you drown it out:
With to-do lists
With news feeds
With other people’s advice
You keep asking for answers, then muting the only voice that has them.
Still, silence doesn’t leave.
It waits patiently.
And one day—maybe today—you’ll stop long enough to hear what it’s been trying to tell you.

I needed this reminder today. Overstimulating myself and getting overly busy is a prime way I cope with my anxiety and there has been a lot to be anxious about recently.
OMG WOW I just listened to this. You know I am in a program you know what I am talking about.ok let me just say it Alcoholics Anonymous and some of the stuff you just said are so true. When I am in silence the gerbal starts running in my head. I am taught in the program I am a good person so that's good. You know when financial stuff is in progress it's hard to concentrate on anything if you feel me. Feel like I am never going to have this first knee replacement. I keep going one day at a time. But again when financial is in your every day life it's hard to concentrate on anything. But I like your short talks or another way of starting things over.
