Why am I talking?
Do you speak with purpose or ramble? Do you leave space for others or dominate the conversation?
In my yoga teacher trainings, I teach W.A.I.T.—a simple tool to help avoid over-talking.
It might change how you communicate too.
Here’s how:
As your sentence ends, cross your fingers—this is your cue.
Silently say, “WAIT.”
Take a breath. Stop talking. Notice the space.
Start again when it feels right.
W.A.I.T. stands for:
W – Why
A – Am
I – I
T – Talking
Silence gives others space to think and connect—and they’ll appreciate you for it.
Next time you’re in a meeting or conversation, cross your fingers. Pause. Ask yourself, “Why am I talking?”
Try it and see what happens.
