Fun doesn’t have to be pretty, productive, or postable. It just needs to light you up.
The world sold you a version of fun that drains your wallet and your energy.
Tropical beaches.
Designer bags.
Weekend retreats.
Madison Avenue fed it to you.
Social media keeps it on drip.
But real fun—your fun—probably looks nothing like that.
It’s probably a little weird.
And probably free.
Like:
Painting a wall a wild color
Laughing so hard you snort
Exploring the woods in your neighborhood
Screaming lyrics in traffic
Fun doesn’t need to be pretty.
Or productive.
Or postable.
It just needs to light you up.
Here are a few of mine:
– Hiking new trails
– Cooking for friends
– Watching comedy at lunch
– Dipping into the cold Maine ocean
– Smashing pickleballs
This is your reminder to define fun on your own damn terms.
Not what sells. Not what trends.
Write it down.
The weirder, the better.
Then go be weird. On purpose.
✨Pass it on
Forward to a friend who could use a little pick-me-up.
Definitely hiking. But I love the idea of weirder is better!
Love this post. Very prescient as people believe that they can "buy" health in a pill, we can purchase fun in an object. No wonder we are in trouble! My favourites are bike rides in nature, looking for interesting recipes, market shopping and cooking, and spending time with girlfriends.
