Is your own house clean?
I came across this question years ago. It changed everything.
At first, it felt like just another clever saying. But the more I sat with it, the more it made me pause, stop looking at others and start looking at myself.
It’s not easy.
I’ve had to be brutally honest. To face the fears I usually push aside—the fear of not being liked, of being overlooked, of being judged. To stop making excuses and own the stories I tell myself.
Because here’s the truth:
If my house isn’t clean, I have no business trying to fix someone else’s.
Try it. Start small.
Before judging a reckless driver, think about a time you were in a rush.
Before criticizing a colleague’s mistake, remember your own slip-ups.
Before lashing out, pause.
And ask yourself: Is my own house clean?
