The Best Days Are Ahead
Spark #354 - You haven't even gotten to the good part yet.
What if my best years are already behind me?
The thought has crossed my mind. More than once.
I don’t buy it.
In my mid-50s I felt stuck, sluggish, and old.
At 62 I feel excited again.
I wake up bursting with enthusiasm to get the day started.
I stopped chasing someone else’s version of success. And I learned to say no.
The best years aren't behind you. Start listening to that deeper voice screaming to be heard.
Take that direction.
You haven’t even gotten to the good part yet.

This is such an energizing reminder that the story isn’t over just because a few chapters felt heavy. I’m 79, and I can say with a straight face that some of the best, most surprising parts of my life — running my first marathon at 60, becoming a pickleball coach, starting a Substack — all happened long after I thought my “peak years” were supposed to be behind me.
What you wrote captures the real pivot: stop chasing someone else’s definition of success, start listening to the voice that’s been trying to get your attention for decades. That’s when things open up. That’s when the energy comes back. And that’s when you realize the good part wasn’t in the rearview at all — it was waiting for you to finally make space for it.
So true - and a great way to think about life. Inspiring.
