Full disclosure. Last month I was ready to quit writing on Substack. Doubt had set in. I questioned whether it even mattered. Then out of nowhere someone messaged: “I was having a rough morning and really needed your Spark today.”
That one reader drove me back to my laptop.
She inspired me to do the same for other people. When I see someone doing something well, I tell them. On the spot.
In person: “That return was complicated. You’re so skilled at your job.”
A text: “I was tired coming in this morning but your class left me energized.”
An email: “What you said on the call was such an aha for me. It shifted the rest of my day.”
I don’t do it to be nice. I do it because I know how it feels to work hard and wonder if it matters.
It costs nothing. It takes one minute.
Sometimes all it takes is one person noticing.

P.S. More simple truths land every Tuesday.

Consider: when someone compliments you, it represents 10 similar compliments from people who are unable/embarrassed (whatever the reason) to offer the compliment.
P.s. I, too, look forward to your Sparks! ❤️
I got a similar email this week and it helped nudge me along this path as well. I find teaching away from the daily contact of an in-person studio for so many years, feedback is much harder to come by, so those little notes are so important and helpful! You were missed in August and it’s nice to have you back!
