This morning I rolled through a stop sign.
Deep in an audiobook, my mind was not on the road.
In a split second, I became aware I was not aware.
I got lucky.
Next time I might not be.
Distraction happens.
My mind can be sloppy.
On the road. With others.
As a mom, I slip into fixing mode before hearing the whole story.
It happens more than I want to admit.
I’m right here, then gone.
Aware. Not aware.
And trying to minimize who I piss off along the way.
P.S. More simple truths land every Tuesday.

Oh boy! Can I relate to this one
"Aware I was not aware" is the whole of mindfulness in four words. The moment you notice you've drifted is the moment you've already come back.
Your line about slipping into fixing mode before hearing the whole story hit home. After forty years of people coming to talk to me, the hardest discipline wasn't finding the right answer. It was not reaching for one before they'd finished speaking.
And I still do it.
